While gamers in the US and the UK are enjoying the wastelands of Fallout 4 with frequent updates, it appears that folks gaming on the PlayStation 4 in Asia might not be so lucky.
When Fallout 4 launched here in the States, it came with the typical day-one patch in tow. Just a couple of weeks later and Update 1.02 dropped. Along with tweaking various missions, gear, etc. behind the scenes, most folks will remember the latter as the patch that squashed the infinite Cap glitch.
If you happen to be gaming on a PlayStation 4 in Asia, however, you’re likely still playing the game sans either of those updates. NeoGAF user SolidChamp recently posted about the situation and it turns out other players are experiencing the same problem. In short, it looks like Fallout 4 updates might not be launching in Asia as of yet.
I keep checking with my friends here in Taiwan and none of us have received the day-one update, nor have we gotten the more recent (and apparently essential 1.02. I have to do the legwork on Google, but gamers in Asia are reporting not receiving these updates.
That initial post is followed by several other folks who claim to be playing in Asia without the two recent updates to Fallout 4. What they all have in common is that they are playing on the PlayStation 4. According to several posters, there’s no such issue if you’re playing Bethesda’s latest epic on the PC through Steam.
Doing a bit of digging, this doesn’t appear to be just an isolated situation. Folks on sites like Gamefaqs appear to be experiencing the same issue, specifically on the PlayStaiton 4 version of Fallout 4. SolidChamp continued his initial post to explain why he finds this issue so frustrating.
How in the hell could Bethesda fail to support their game in an entire region? With The Witcher 3 I could always expect the update to be delivered several days behind NA and Europe, but at least we were getting them consistently. I understand that the certification process might be different for different countries/territories, but this is unacceptable.
Whether or not this is a Sony or Bethesda issue, however, remains unclear. One poster claims they spoke with a Sony representative who informed them that Bethesda was in charge of the updates. As far as is being reported by board members, Bethesda has yet to respond to inquiries about a lack of updates for Fallout 4 in Region 3.
It’s no secret that the certification process can get long and drawn out, but the argument remains that, if there is an issue or slowdown, Bethesda should probably provide an update for their fans gaming in Asia.
