According to a leaked poster displaying art for the next Destiny expansion, players will soon experience the Rise of Iron in Bungie’s mega-hit first-person shooter. And look! There are wolves!
The team over at Kotaku was tooling around reddit yesterday and came up with the above image. It’s of a supposed poster promoting Destiny’s fourth major expansion that, assuming this is accurate, will be called Rise of Iron.
We’ve had our crack team of investigators look into the poster and they’ve come up with a pretty interesting theory. First off, we’ve got those wolves I just mentioned above. Secondly, there’s a massive wall in the background. Thirdly, winter has quite clearly come. Finally, anyone familiar with Game of Thrones knows what “paying the iron price” means, and the expansion’s title, Rise of Iron, is clearly a reference to that saying. So yes, fans, we’re saying that Destiny takes place in the same universe as George R.R. Martin’s fantasy epic. It’s basically guaranteed at this point that Destiny 2 will feature dragons.
In all seriousness though, this seems a little too spot-on to be a fake image and, since E3 is right around the corner, it makes perfect sense that the team would be gearing up for a big Destiny reveal in just a few weeks. April’s light content update and retooling was nice and all, but what fans are really itching for –and what will keep them interested until that sequel finally drops—is something a bit more substantial.
Seeing how The Taken King left off on a bit of a cliffhanger and Bungie has already stated that a full DLC expansion was still in the works, now would be the right time to pull back the curtain on something like Rise of Iron. The original post states that two sources tied to the project have already confirmed its authenticity, so it looks like it’s just a matter of time before official word comes in. Their source also claims that the new content will be bigger than the year-one DLC packs, which should have fans squirming with excitement. We weren’t expecting anything on the scale of The Taken King, but we certainly prefer the idea of something that will keep us busy for more than a couple afternoons.
Along with all of the new story content, extra bounties, armor, multiplayer maps and the like, there will also be a new raid that actually started development about a year ago.
Other than that, it’s anyone’s guess what Rise of Iron will be about. Earlier joking aside, the image seems to depict Lord Saladin, who is in charge of the Iron Banner. He also seems to be holding a giant axe or hammer, so maybe we’re getting a new unique weapon? As for the wolves, much of Destiny’s lore revolves around those particular four-legged pack hunters, so they’re probably just there for the “badass effect.”
