Neocore Games and Reverb Publishing have announced that the dungeon-crawling, gothic-noir ARPG built in a similar vein to Diablo II has officially launched on PC...exclusively on Steam. Thankfully the new title is available for only $14.99.
As mentioned in the press release...
The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing pits players in fierce battles against familiar supernatural foes in a one-of-a-kind action-RPG. Following the journey of Van Helsing, son of the famed vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, players can partake in immersive cooperative multiplayer to watch the engrossing dark storyline unfold.
It probably seems like an oxymoron thing to say but if you weren't fond of the DRM in Diablo III there is some retribution to be had with The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing. Yes, technically you're still supporting a form of DRM because of Steam, although the biggest difference is that with Steam you can at least go into offline mode.
Now there's no reason to get into a debate over the intricacies and policies of DRM...however for people who are looking for an action-RPG that doesn't force you to stay online at all times, Neocore's cooperative title at least makes it possible to play the game the way you want, when you want. You aren't beholden to the authoritarian demarcations of a corporate entity.
If you're feeling spiffy about The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, feel free to visit the official website or pick up a digital copy right now for only $14.99 from the Steam Powered Store.
