There is a lot to keep gamers busy in 2008. I remember sitting back and waiting for the deluge of games prior to Halo 3’s release, but I also wondered what the next year would bring. Sure a few titles had been officially announced, but nothing was set in stone. Now we’re looking at a year packed with potential: Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Gears of War 2, Ninja Gaiden 2 and Resistance 2 are at the top of many people’s list. But let’s not forget that the lesser known games could be breakthrough’s as well. After all, 2007 taught us that a first person puzzle game could literally revolutionize how we play games.

Which brings me to the game I am most excited to play that has no big budget ties or series affiliation: EA DICE’s Mirror’s Edge. The new first person action adventure game is going to be a blast to play, that I have no doubt. And with properly implemented gameplay it won’t matter if there’s a rousing GTA IV style story, or something simpler like Chell’s tale in Portal.

EA has today released a new video of the game, and the opening claims everything is in-game footage being shown. Personally I love the look of the game. It has an aesthetic that reminds me of Portal, where you have colors assigned to do a certain task. You can watch the video below and see what I’m talking about. When Mirror’s Edge comes out prepare to begin thinking with yellow colored walls. That’s not poetic at all; someone in marketing will have to work on it. At least they have great music…actually, I nominate this trailer for best score ever. Or at least so far in 2008.
