And, just like that, the early year gaming drought was over. It's a big week over on the PlayStation 3, featuring the launch of the highly anticipated Japanese RPG, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, as well as a trip into Double Fine's The Cave, the wide launch of the Dust 514 beta, a couple of PlayStation Move games, demos including Dead Space 3 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and more.

It's not uncommon for the first month or so of a year to be mostly devoid of big video game releases. Most publishers try to get their big titles out the door in time for the holiday shopping season, meaning there's a down time following in which few big releases make it to market. Things are starting to pick up speed, however. Last week saw the release of DmC: Devil May Cry and, this week, even more gaming goodness is making its way to store and virtual shelves. Over on the PlayStation 3, this is easily the biggest week of the year so far.

First up is the release of Ni no Kuni, a JRPG collaboration between the talented developers at Level 5 and the amazing animation team, Studio Ghibli. Ni no Kuni tells the story of a young boy who sets out on a quest to save his recently deceased mother from a magical world. The premise is pretty dark, but the world of Ni no Kuni is full of vibrant colors and whimsical characters, making it an ideal RPG for the whole family. Even better is the fact that Ni no Kuni will be available on store shelves, as well as on the PlayStation Network as a day one digital download.

Joining Ni no Kuni on the PlayStation Network this week will be a collection of games from a wide variety of genres. FPS MMO Dust 514 becomes playable as an open beta this week, along with the digital releases of Pro Evolution Soccer for the PSP and Ninja Gaiden: Sigma. You'll also want to keep an eye out for The Cave, a platforming adventure game from the mind of the legendary Ron Gilbert and the developers at Double Fine Production.

The digital releases continue with Escapevektor for the PlayStation Vita, Just Dance 4 and the newest member of the PlayStation 2 Classics collection, Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories.

If you happen to have a PlayStation Move controller in need of a good workout, two new titles are launching especially for you. Mad Dog McCree brings back classic light gun gameplay while Racquet Sports turns your Move controller, well, into a racquet.

If none of that happens to grab your attention, then maybe you'd be interested in one of this week's five demos set to hit PSN. Players can test drive Dead Space 3 this week, along with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Mad Dog McCree, The Cave and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed for the Vita.

More info on each of these games can be found on the PlayStation Blog. Otherwise, clear off some space on the hard drive and get ready to start downloading, because all of these games and more will be available once the PlayStation Store updates tomorrow afternoon.
