An alleged gameplay video from "Project Beast" hit the web this morning. This video gives us our first glimpse at From Software's next game.
"Project Beast" is the game's working title. I imagine the true title has the word "Souls" in it. The game closely resembles the Dark Souls games previously released by From Software. It's a third-person action game set in a bleak fantasy world. The boss fights are separated by walls of fog.
The game is apparently leaving the medieval time period of previous Souls games behind, though. The gameplay video shows the player wielding a shotgun in one hand. That's not to say melee combat isn't a part of the action; our hero has a blade in his other hand.
"Project Beast" is rumored to be a collaboration between From Software and Sony Japan. It's also said to be a PS4 exclusive. Given how beloved the Souls series has become among hardcore gamers, "Project Beast" could be a huge addition to the PS4's library.
The game's development is being led by Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Souls series and new president of From. He directed Demon's Souls and Dark Souls but handed off the reins for Dark Souls 2. I guess he took on a less day-to-day role on Dark Souls 2 so he could focus on creating "Project Beast."
"Project Beast" could appear at Sony's E3 2014 press conference next month. If so, I hope that they have some additional footage to share from the game.
I suspect the YouTube footage will get taken down soon. Just in case, here are a few GIFs of the action (via NeoGAF):
