Sleeping Dogs Dev Diary Explores A Very Intricate Hong Kong

United Front Games released a new behind-the-scenes video developer diary detailing their experience with trying to capture the mood, setting and themes of contemporary Hong Kong, as well as the influences that help make the region tick.
The behind-the-scenes video is more informative than it is entertaining, but it's all for the best. The producers and artists cover the game's influences from real-life Hong Kong as well as how the seedy underbelly isn't quite as evil as it's oftentimes portrayed to be in the movies.
I find it fascinating that the Triads are sort of a counter-cultural authority rather than just an organized group of gang members. It sounds very similar to the way the Yakuza work in Japan. Again, most times we just see the Triads in movies portrayed as evil gang members but it's rare you hear about how interwoven they are into the fabric of Hong Kong society.
Does this make you more excited to play Sleeping Dogs? Well, if the game is anything like the dev doc, then most definitely. The verdict is still out on how well the game itself plays and whatnot so we'll continue to keep providing coverage and updates as they roll in.
Sleeping Dogs is due out later this year for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. For further information or the option to pre-order feel free to visit the Official Website.
