2K Games released the official launch trailer for their third-person military shooter, Spec Ops: The Line, ahead of the game's North American release tomorrow and it's UK release this Friday.
The game itself sees a small squad sent into Dubai after a devastating sandstorm that practically buries the city. The squad's mission is to find out what happened to the 33rd Infantry lead by John Konrad. The game's narrative follows the blurred lines of morality during field combat, as well as a fragile state of mind to which many soldiers fall victim due to the horrific events that transpire during the Dubai evacuation.
The bread and butter of Spec Ops is about the line of stability that makes or breaks a soldier, as well as the spell cast over them during stressful times that call for mentally unhinging decisions. The trailer does a fair job of setting up the action and teasing gamers with the idea that it's easy to cross the line.
The game itself felt a bit generic for my tastes, but if you're looking for a more realized third-person shooter along the lines of Gears of War but grounded with a gritty, morally blurred storyline then Spec Ops: The Line might be your cup of tea. Just don't go in expecting Panda poo tea when the flavor is more along the lines of your standard green tea.
Spec Ops: The Line is set for release tomorrow in North America on June 26th, for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. You can expect to see the game at local retailers in the UK beginning June 29th. For more info feel free to visit the Official Website.
