Fans and backers of the crowdfunded platformer, Yooka-Laylee, were disappointed to hear this morning that the spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie would be delayed until next year.
The game isn’t expected to release until Q1 of 2017, which, to any hardcore fan of the game, feels like light-years from now. But Playtonic Games was kind enough to soften the blow with a brand new trailer to show us just how badly we want to keep waiting for this game to come out.
Playtonic didn’t want their fans to get too upset about Yooka-Laylee's delay, so they addressed the matter head-on, saying,
While we felt confident we could ship the game in October as originally projected in our Kickstarter, the Playtonic team has decided that it would prefer to add a few extra months’ polish to the game schedule.
To be honest, I am a little bummed I won’t get my hands on Yooka-Laylee this year, but overall I’m glad they are taking the extra time to polish the game. There’s nothing worse than waiting any lengthy amount of time for a game and it being rushed out only to have it littered with bugs and who-knows-what-else. If Street Fighter V was any indication of what happens when you rush out a game, it’s probably best if Yooka-Laylee is delayed to add in that extra shine.
While we won't be able to play Yooka-Laylee anytime soon, I wonder if that means the demo that was supposed to be released this year early to backers has also been delayed? I suppose it's safe to assume they don't want to roll out a demo when they feel like they've still got more to work on. But hopefully we'll get some kind of preview soon outside of the trailer that was released today.
Yooka-Laylee, as mentioned above, won’t be releasing until early 2017. If you would like more information on the game, you can visit the official website.
