Valve has announced a new feature for Steam and Steamworks called Steam Guard. The feature is designed to enhance account security for users of the digital gaming platform.
Steam Guard lets users link their account management to a specific PC. It prevents other PC's from modifying their account settings. Users will be notified if another PC attempts to log into their account or change their settings.
Steam Guard utilizes the upcoming Intel Identity Protection Technology. IPT is a new security feature included with 2nd Generation Intel CoreT and Intel CoreT vProT processors. The processor itself generates a new six-digit password every 30 seconds. It's an additional layer of security that used to require an external device, like a key fob.
""Account phishing and hijacking are our #1 support issues," said Valve president Gabe Newell in the press release. "With Intel's IPT and Steam Guard, we've taken a big step towards giving customers the account security they need as they purchase more and more digital goods."
There's no mention of when this new feature will go live.
