Amber Tamblyn Finds Main Street

When we reported yesterday about Orlando Bloom and Andrew McCarthy joining the drama Main Street, I speculate that the remaining "young girl" role would be filled by someone like Abigail Breslin or Dakota Fanning. But apparently I was thinking too young. Amber Tamblyn will be playing the lead role, according to Variety, a young girl in a North Carolina town whose life is changed when a stranger arrives.

The fact that the lead character will be an actual adult actually makes the movie sound a lot more promising, since before it seemed to have potential to be some sappy Nicholas Sparks-style coming of age story. I mean, it could still come out that way. But Tamblyn's casting is definitely a step in the right direction.
