Many doomsday enthusiasts past and present were convinced 2012 would be the end of the world. They insisted the Mayan calendar said so! Now that mankind's made it past this predicted apocalypse, a swarm of comedians are poking fun at the end of days with a trio of upcoming movies.
Seth Rogen and company have This Is The End; Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright offer The World's End, and Anna Kendrick is fronting what might be the wildest if them all: Rapturepalooza. Written by Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure scribe Chris Matheson, this comedy is set in the days following the Rapture. This means those God has chosen have been sucked up full-body into heaven, and the rest of us have been left behind to face plagues, pestilence, and the coming of the Anti-Christ, played here by Hot Tub Time Machine's Craig Robinson in a dapper purple suit. Get a look at this insanely irreverent comedy below with its NSFW red band trailer:
Cursing crows, fireballs rocketing from the sky, and rainstorms of blood are bad enough, but then comes The Beast (Robinson), hell-bent on bringing hell to Earth. That is unless Lindsey (Kendrick) and her boyfriend Ben (John Francis Daley) can stop him with a honeypot plan. Oh, and Jesus accidentally gets blasted with a laser beam. Oops!
The comedy on display is outrageous, and bolstered by a cast that includes such funny folks as Ken Jeong, Thomas Lennon, Tyler Labine, Rob Huebel, Ana Gasteyer, Paul Scheer, and apocalypse comedy veteran Rob Corddry, who has also appeared in Warm Bodies and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World. It's the end of the world as we know it, and it looks pretty funny.
Rapturepalooza opens in theaters and goes On Demand on May 10th.
