Ant-Man Is Apparently Going To Include These Weird Roles

Marvel Studios' Ant-Man is already deep into production, but that doesn't mean its done adding to its cast. Sure, the starring roles in the movie will be played by the likes of Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lily and Corey Stoll - but they need people to fill out the ranks as latin gang members and Irish softball players!

While that may sound like a very weird joke, those are actually two of the descriptions for background actors that the Marvel Studios production worked to find for a shoot in Fayetteville, Georgia this afternoo . Vixen Varsity has the full rundown on all of the parts that Ant-Man was looking for in the scene, and it's a colorful group to say the least (and none that you would immediately associate with the shrinking superhero). According to the report, the film was looking to hire:

  • Latino kids ages 4-7

  • "Rough and tough looking males of Latin descent that are between the ages of 24 – 34 and that can play the role of a gang member."

  • "Caucasian MALE softball players of IRISH descent (REDHEADS a PLUS) that are between the ages of 24 -34."

  • "MALE softball players of LATIN descent that are between the ages of 24 -34."

  • "Caucasian MALE bartenders that are between the ages of 20 – 30.’

So what can we glean from this casting? Well, just from the information that has been put in front of us it sounds like there will be at least one scene in the film that will feature a softball game being played between predominantly Irish and Latin adult males - and there's a very real possibility that the game is going to be getting interrupted by some Latino gang members (and some children?). It's also hard to say what the bartenders are there for, especially without knowing how many the film is looking for. Is Ant-Man going to have a sequence with an army of bartenders? Obviously it's also impossible to say how this scene will fit into the scheme of the larger film - especially without knowing which if the principals will be on set - but I'm personally hoping that there is a choreographed insect-level fight scene going on between the blades of grass during the sporting event.

With director Peyton Reed at the helm, using a script re-written by Paul Rudd and Adam McKay based on original drafts by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, Ant-Man has been in production for a number of weeks now, but surely has plans to wrap up soon so that the post-production process can begin. After all, with the movie set to come out on July 17, 2015, most of next year is likely going to be dedicated to shrinking effects and other various yet important CGI details.
