Bond 22 Already Looking For Direction

On November 17 Martin Campbell will try for a second time to resurrect the failing Bond franchise with his latest entry into the world of 007: Casino Royale. Even though Casino Royale is still in the midst of filming, the series’ producers have locked up new Bond Daniel Craig to play the character in a follow up movie.

R But they haven’t contracted him just for the fun of it. Actually, they’re already moving ahead on a second Craig fronted film. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter says they’re in talks with British director Roger Michell to take the reigns for the next one. Craig had better be good.

The potentially Michell helmed movie is rumored to be based on an original idea from Bond producer Michael Wilson. After the way Wilson and his partners have treated the spy character recently, that might not be a good thing. Wilson is well on his way to becoming Bond’s version of Rick Berman. Maybe he’ll find a way to get James using technobabble. “I like my Martini’s particle vibrated, not mixed with a centrifuge.” Right. That was stupid. Sorry.

Before considering Bond, Michell was probably best known as the director of Notting Hill. Come on, admit it, as romantic comedies go it’s pretty good. He’s also the director of Changing Lanes, the last time Ben Affleck was any good. He’s even worked with Daniel Craig before, on his last movie, 2004’s Enduring Love.
