Isn’t Charlie Chan considered racist and offensive? That’s what I’d always assumed. Not so to Lucy Liu, who has signed up to blissfully take her turn being typecast as “that Asian chick” in an upcoming Charlie Chan update.
The Hollywood Reporter says the new film is being written by Dan McDermott, and will reportedly center around the granddaughter of famed the Chinese-American detective. That’s where Lucy Liu comes in, she’ll take on the no doubt stereotype ridden role of the granddaughter. There goes another role that could have gone to Margaret Cho.
Liu will also executive produce, so the more times you see it the more money she’ll amass. Hopefully this version of Chan will have an affinity for tight leather pants.
