Subscribe To Crazy Details Emerge About The Wachowskis' Jupiter Ascending Updates
Having read David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas and fallen in love with it, I'm incredibly excited for the next project from the Wachowski siblings, Andy and Lana, for which they teamed up with director Tom Tykwer to adapt the practically unadaptable Cloud Atlas into a film. (You can read much more about my excitement for that here) Yes, I felt as burned by Speed Racer as everyone else, but I'm really impressed with the way the Wachowskis haven't scaled down their ambitions one bit since The Matrix movies, and every time they start talking about a new project, my ears perk up no matter how insane it sounds-- and every single one of them has sounded pretty insane on some level.

And yet, they really might have outdone themselves with their plans for Jupiter Ascending, which looks to be their next film with Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum lined up for the lead roles. Now Vulture has snagged some details about the story, and if you thought they exhausted all their wild sci-fi ideas with the Matrix movies, think again. Jupiter Ascending will take a wide-angle view of the universe, in which human beings are pretty much the lowest-developed form of creation in the universe. The more advanced civilizations are keeping an eye on us, and they become especially interested in a Russian immigrant working as a maid (Kunis) who happens to share the same DNA as the Queen of the Universe, and therefore is a threat to her power.

As Vulture rightly points out, what happens next is a bit similar to the plot of Snow White and the Huntsman: Tatum plays a more-evolved creature who's also a bounty hunter sent to kill Kunis's character, but instead he falls in love with her, and the two of them presumably team up to fight back against the higher powers that control the universe.

There's a lot more detail and craziness to process over at Vulture, but here's one more detail: Joseph Gordon-Levitt may also soon be getting an offer, though in a role we don't know about yet. Try not to let your brain explode, and if you can, join us in the comments to marvel at just how insane the Wachowskis and their imaginations can be-- and wonder if this time they can actually pull it off.
