Dan Aykroyd seems to be the only remaining human on the planet who wants to see Ghostbusters 3 happen, and he's maintaining that reputation yet again by talking about it with an even crazier idea to keep it alive. Talking to Empire Online, Aykroyd acknowledged that Bill Murray is less than enthusiastic about the idea-- "his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that"-- but also didn't seem to think Murray being out of the picture would keep the movie from happening, or even from Peter Venkman making an appearance.

Yes, that's right-- Aykroyd suggested to Empire that they could bring in another actor to play Venkman. He also said there's still more work to do on the script, so it doesn't seem like they've made any actual progress in the last, oh, three years or so. But none of that has ever stopped Aykroyd from plugging the movie that doesn't seem to be at all close to existing, even though, after taking a role in the Will Ferrell- Zach Galifianakis comedy Dog Fight, he's got a real film to work on. Akyroyd denied the recent, hilarious rumor that Murray had sent him back a copy of the new script after passing it through the shredder, but that's the version of things I'll continue to believe-- the script in tatters, and the almighty fury of Bill Murray preventing the movie from ever, ever happening.

It's terrifying to think that a Ghostbusters 3 with a new Venkman could ever exist, but I wouldn't get your hackles up too fast-- the likelihood of this movie happening gets less and less the longer it's just Dan Aykroyd talking about it. Keep your PKE Meter powered down for now.
