The Dark Tower Is Looking To Add This Young Sundance Star

One of the most highly anticipated silver screen adaptations set to hit theaters within the next few years is none other than The Dark Tower. An adaptation of the beloved Stephen King novel series, the project has remained in development hell for years and only recently got off the ground. As production will begin very soon in South Africa, there’s still much work to be done behind the scenes of the upcoming movie. The Dark Tower has just made another big step forward by casting a young up-and-comer for the role of Timmy.

According to a recent report from Deadline, actor Michael Barbieri is currently in talks to join the cast of the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower. Details on the potential casting remain somewhat scarce, but we know that the 14-year-old actor is currently in talks to portray the character of Timmy – a humorous and lighthearted companion to Tom Taylor’s Jake Chambers. Although Barbieri has not officially signed onto the project as of yet, the Deadline report described his negotations to take part in the film as "serious," and his involvement is overall looking incredibly likely at this point.

Michael Barbieri seems to have made a significant impact on audiences in a very small amount of time. Prior to his involvement in the upcoming Dark Tower adaptation, he had made a name for himself as the co-star of Little Men, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. Although Barbieri is a relative unknown, he joins a particularly all-star cast, which has already included the likes of Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, who will portray the villainous Man in Black, and Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, who will portray Roland Deschain.

The Dark Tower is based upon a cherished series of Stephen King novels of the same name. Centering upon a lone gunslinger named Roland Deschain, the story follows his character has he navigates "Mid-World" in a search for a fabled "Dark Tower." The series spanned eight books over the course of several decades, and while the upcoming film will take inspiration from the series, the filmmakers have made it abundantly clear that certain changes will be made through the course of adaptation with regards to how the narrative will unfold. We don’t know exactly what other changes will follow, but just seeing The Dark Tower brought to life on the silver screen for the very first time will undoubtedly prove to be an awe-inspiring experienced for longtime fans of the series.

It looks like The Dark Tower is slowly coming together quite nicely. We here at CinemaBlend will bring you updates about the film’s cast, production, and inevitable release as such updates are made available to us. The Dark Tower will hit theaters on February 23, 2017.
