New Edge Of Tomorrow Trailer Has Tom Cruise Facing Aliens, Explosions And Death

Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cold out there today. Ok, I realize the Groundhog Day nods at Edge of Tomorrow are probably already getting tired, but it's hard to hear the words "It's a new day people" in the newest EoT trailer and not think of Bill Murray's alarm clock. Only Tom Cruise's character isn't forced to relive the same chilly Pennsylvania day. (Bing!) His reality is much harsher than that. Hot on the heels of a cluster of great featurettes that showcase the time-looping story comes a thrilling new trailer for Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow.

Titled an "IMAX Exclusive," the new Edge of Tomorrow video clocks in at a whopping three and a half minutes, and begins with rookie soldier Tom Cruise headed into what proves to be a very brief (at first) mission in mankind's war against an alien invasion. As the trailer shows us, Tom Cruise's Major William Cage is dropped in on a massive aliens vs. humans battle that he's in no way prepared for. From the look of it, he literally dies before he hits the ground. Fortunately, Cage seems to have hijacked the ability to restart the day whenever he dies, a fact that's brought to light by Emily Blunt's Rita Vrataski, whom Cage tracks down on her orders. From there, Cruise's character is able to improve his efforts to engage the enemy little by little with each "new" day.

Amidst the footage featured in the trailer, we have aliens attacking...

Tom Cruise smashing...

Cruise smash

Stuff exploding...

And the obligatory action movie helicopter crash...

We also continue to see hints that Emily Blunt's character's fate may be in jeopardy. Will Cage end up trying to save her in addition to -- or possibly instead of -- defeating the aliens? Seems like a good way to make this whole thing personal, as the two characters are getting to know one another more and more throughout the repeat-day. We'll have to wait and see how that plays out.

Warner Bros has Edge of Tomorrow lined up to debut June 6. In addition to Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise, the cast also includes Bill Paxton and Jeremy Piven.
