Friday Night Lights' Zach Gilford Teams Up With Schwarzenegger For The Last Stand

After watching him play the adorable, humble, sometimes-shy, but always capable Matt Saracen on Friday Night Lights for five seasons, it isn’t hard to picture actor Zach Gilford taking on the role of a young cop working in a small town on the Mexican border. Based on this latest bit of casting news, that’s exactly what he’ll be doing.

Deadline reports that Gilford (Friday Night Lights, Off the Map has signed on to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand. The film, which is listed as Last Stand (sans “The”) in IMDB, has Schwarzenegger playing a former LAPD cop now serving as sheriff in a small border town called Sommerton Junction. After a drug kingpin escapes FBI’s company and heads straight to Mexico, Sommerton Junction is the last town between the bad-guy and freedom.

From the description, which mentions Schwarzenegger’s character being “counted out” by the FBI because of “the perceived ineptitude of his small town force” it sounds like this could be one of those movies where the local law shows up the FBI in the end, Die-Hard-style. Gilford plays a cop that works for Schwarzenegger’s character. It may not be easy picturing these two side-by-side, however the dynamic could certainly work.
