HBO Has American Girls

Making movies out of little girls’ dolls seems to be the new thing. First it was those slutty Bratz dolls, now Variety says HBO is making movies out of the ridiculously expensive, for rich kids only, line of American Girl dolls. Do kids even till play with dolls? I thought we had computers now.

The movie will be based on an American Girl doll/character called Kit Kittredge. She’s a clever, depression era, 9-year-old bread-liner. Big fun for your pre-teen daughter, I’m sure. I’m interested just to see how they’ll romanticize starving in the streets when your dead goes jobless during the worst economic period in US history. That’ll take creativity.

Apparently Walden Media decided they didn’t want to touch it. The movie was originally theirs, but they dropped it, giving HBO’s Picturehouse films a chance to grab it.
