Everyone likes Dexter, right? Well, imagine if Dexter was a hot brunette who likes how she looks in fishnet tops. Better right? If you said yes, then we have a project for you.
Though the concept has been floating around since 2006, when the creators discussed plans at the San Diego Comic Con, a film adaptation of the comic Hack/Slash has not yet come to fruition, largely thanks to screenwriter Justin Marks, who is best known as the guy who wrote the epic shit storm that was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. With Frederik Bond replacing Todd Lincoln as director back in July, and the idea of a girl in skimpy clothes continuing to appeal, it was only a matter of finding a new writer before the project could get new legs. Now they have.
Stephen Susco, according to Bloody Disgusting, has been hired to pen the comic adaptation about a girl, Cassie Hack, who travels the country with her mysterious bodyguard, Vlad, hunting and killing "slashers," including the likes of Chucky from the Child's Play series and Herbert West from Re-Animator. Susco's previous projects include the American version of The Grudge as well as its sequel, and is currently working on the next film in the Leatherface franchise, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.
While it sounds good in concept, there always appears to be a barrier between sexy comic book heroes and success in film. Previous entries like Æon Flux and Ultraviolet (yes, I know it wasn't based on a comic) notoriously bombed despite marketing Charlize Theron and Milla Jovovich in tight, revealing outfits. The source material was previously turned into a stage play that received high marks, but should it go the same route as its predecessors, going with style over substance and forgetting to establish any type of story, you can be certain that the film will have a reserved spot at the Razzie Awards.
