The Hookup Handbook Hits Hollywood

The guys have had their chance, now it’s the woman’s turn to go for the cheap one night stand. But who’s complaining?

Dimension Films is planning on adapting the popular book The Hookup Handbook: A Single Girls Guide to Living it Up for the big screen. The book focuses on three women who live in pursuit of “the hookup” rather than traditional dating. Sounds like most guys’ fantasy, a female version of The 40 Year Old Virgin or a possible “chick flick” depending on how the subject matter is handled.

Originally written by Andrea Lavinthal and Jessica Rozle, the film adaptation is being done by Alyssa Embree, Jessica Koosed, and Stacey Harman, who are currently working on Jingle Belle for Happy Madison Productions. The idea that writers for Adam Sandler’s company are handling the adaptation gives me hope that this won’t be just another sappy Stella-getting-her-grove-back type movie, especially looking at the producer credits: Peter Riche (Tomcats), Alan Riche (Starsky & Hutch) and Wendy Riche ("Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County"). Actually, with those credits involved I can’t help but wonder if it won’t be another comedy as bawdy as 40 Year Old Virgin, only with women.
