I'm going to be honest: I thought that Joel Edgerton was already set as the star of Kathryn Bigelow's untitled SEAL Team 6 movie that has been casually referred to as Kill Bill Laden. It was all the way back in May of last year when reports surfaced that the Aussie actor had been brought on board, but apparently the past few seven months have been nothing but speculation, as it wasn't until today that Edgerton finally locked in for the Oscar winning director's follow-up to The Hurt Locker.

According to Variety, the deal has been made official and Joel Edgerton is now locked in as the star of the still-untitled film. With the new word, Edgerton is actually the second actor to join the cast, as fellow-Aussie Jason Clarke attached himself to the project in early November. One actor that won't be in the film, however, will be Rooney Mara, who was previously rumored, but won't be able to do it due to her promotion schedule for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Chris Pratt, of Parks and Recreation and Moneyball fame, has also been a part of the conversation, though the newest report doesn't include any details about his involvement. The script for the film was written by Mark Boal (who also won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker) and production is scheduled to begin next month. The film already has a set release date on December 9th of this year.

It's fantastic to hear that this project is finally moving forward. I've been waiting to see a new Bigelow film since she blew us all away with Hurt Locker back in 2009 (no pun intended). With the production start date coming up so soon, we can anticipate many more casting stories over the next few weeks, so keep checking back here on Cinema Blend for more info.
