Keanu Plays A Bad Cop

Keanu Reeves doesn’t have much planned for the next few years. In fact, until today his schedule was completely clear. But now he’s doing something called The Night Watchman, a new movie from writer James Ellroy.

Variety says David Ayer is re-writing Ellroy’s script, and then directing it. The movie has apparently been hanging around in development hell for a decade, with people like David Fincher, Oliver Stone, and Spike Lee all at some point interested in it. Perhaps there’s a reason they all passed on it, Ayers isn’t exactly a Spike Lee equivalent.

The movie is set right after the OJ Simpson verdict and the L.A. riots. Keanu is a cop who plays fast and loose with the rules to solve murders and take care of gang violence. After the mess the LAPD ends up in, Reeves’ character realizes he’ll have to change the methods that have made him so effective.
