Michael Fassbender Joins The Cast Of Ridley Scott's Prometheus

As rumors were being bandied about regarding Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, one name that kept popping up was Michael Fassbender. Rumored to be playing the ship's android, much in the same vein as Ian Holm, Lance Henriksen, and Winona Ryder, it was never clear if his was actually being considered or if it was all fake. Now we know.
THR reports that Fassbender has officially joined the cast of the film, which is now an original project called Prometheus. Already starring Noomi Rapace as the female lead named Elizabeth Shaw, the rumors were 100% right in that the actor will be playing an android. Apparently an offer was indeed extended last year, and talks have been on and off since. It's still unknown what the film will actually be about, but Scott has gone on record saying that it will have "Alien DNA."
The main thing that's puzzling me about this project is how far away it will actually get from the Alien universe. Strong female leads and androids were both hallmarks of the series. As reported earlier today, the film is scheduled to be released on June 8 next year.
