Will Noomi Rapace Be The Female Lead Of The Alien Prequel?

The bar is going to be set pretty damn high for any actress that signs on to Ridley Scott's Alien prequel. Starring as Ellen Ripley in four films, Sigourney Weaver is nothing short of an icon and even if the characters are completely different, a comparison is inevitable. Naturally, this means that the casting is going to be geared towards a woman who can portray strength, and who's stronger than Lisbeth Salander?
Deadline is reporting a rumor that Noomi Rapace, who played the heroine Salander in the Swedish Millenium trilogy, is being considered for a role in Scott's film. According to the article, the director and the studio have been meeting with actresses, including Carey Mulligan, and Rapace apparently "left a strong impression." Rapace will be making her English language debut next December in the sequel to Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
If you're not familiar with Noomi's past work, check her out as Lisbeth Salander in the trailer for The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest below:
Rapace seems like a fine actress from what I've seen of her, and I must say that I am curious to see what she'll do in an English speaking role. With the role of Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man reboot now off the table, this will be a highly sought after role that could very well dominate the news in the coming weeks.
