The word "epic" has been overused to the point that it's pretty much lost all meaning, but in the classic sense of the word Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim should fit the bill. The characters at the center of the film, played by Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi, are pilots who work together to operate skyscraper-sized mechanized behemoths called Jaegers to do battle with equally giant monsters called Kaiju that are spilling out of a dimensional rip that has opened in the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
For the movie's promotional campaign Warner Bros. will likely work to highlight the incredible size of the mechs and monsters - and really already have with the film's first trailer - but now the first poster has been released as well and that "epic" size is demonstrated perfectly with just a tiny bit of contrast work. Check out the poster below and see it full size over on Apple (opens in new tab).
It's subtle, but effective. By making the actors appear to basically be two little specks on the Jaegers visor you immediately get the sense of just how enormous these mechs really are, and the same can be said for the banner image on the same site's page:
Pacific Rim co-stars Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Burn Gorman, and is based on an original script by Travis Beacham. Warner Bros. will release the film on July 12, 2013 and you can read more about and see more from the movie in our Blend Film Datbase.
