John Lasseter and co. have used the short film as a medium to train employees on techniques and to try to new tactics. Audiences have been privy to some of these prior to the studio’s big film releases, like Brave or Toy Story 3. Now, Pixar is putting together Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 2, which will hit Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on November 13.
In 2007, Pixar put out a set of some of the studio’s best and brightest short films. The idea was pretty brilliant; plenty of fans love the short flicks present at the beginning of the studio’s films, and putting together a collection of them was a great way to show the evolution of the shorts from the 1980s to the time of the release. Just a scant few years later, Pixar’s Volume 2 set will feature some of the newer shorts, as well as seven student films that were overseen by Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, and Pete Docter.
It’s pretty neat that the Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 2 will be made available for purchase on the same day as Brave. However, you don’t need to buy the “La Luna” short that was featured in the full-length movie, if that is your big interest. That short will actually be available with the Brave release. You can check out the full list of shorts in the Volume 2 set, below.
