Prom Trailer: It's High School Without The Musical

There are some movies aimed at tweens and teens that adults can easily ignore-- the Step Up franchise, for example, or all the Platinum Dunes horror remakes. And then there are others that suck you in despite yourself, offering youthful exuberance and nostalgia and pop songs that you'll pretend to hate but wind up singing in the car ride home.

I'm talking about movies like Prom, which seems to be Disney's non-musical, slightly older skewing attempt at besting High School Musical. The first trailer has debuted at MySpace, apparently unaware that no teenagers actually use the site anymore, and you can watch it embedded below. It's poppy, it's silly, it embraces that age-old high school movie conceit that prom night is the most important night of your entire life-- and yet, like I said, I was charmed. Starring a bunch of fresh-faced unknowns and promising "a powerful soundtrack," Prom looks energetic and smiley and probably totally intolerable-- and yet, I can't stay away. The movie hits theaters April 29, and in addition to the trailer below, you can check out three new stills from the film in our Blend Film Database.
