Rob Zombie Remaking The Blob... Without The Blob

I haven't seen Halloween 2, and I don't really know anyone who has, but apparently it's not an unmitigated disaster. If it were, I assume its director Rob Zombie wouldn't already be signing on to reboot another horror classic, this time going all the way back to 1958 to take on The Blob.

And if you thought the changes he made to Halloween were crazy, just wait til you hear what he wants to do to the title character of The Blob. He told Variety, "My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing -- that's the first thing I want to change. That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now."

Yes, I see your point... but why exactly are you remaking The Blob if you're not going to have, uh, a blob? I realize Zombie has his own way of making movies, and people will probably come out for this one regardless, but I'm not sure where this idea falls on the line between genius and just ridiculous.
