Scorsese And Monahan Together Again

Oscar winning screenwriter William Monahan just can’t let go of the guys he wrote The Departed for. Not only is he writing another Hong Kong remake for DiCaprio (more on that here), but he’s doing another project with Scorsese as well.

Variety reports that Paramount is developing a rock n’ roll epic called The Long Play for Martin Scorsese to direct, and they’re bringing in The Departed screenwriter William Monahan to rewrite whatever their current script is. They’ll be moving fast, the film is slated for release this fall.

The Long Play is supposed to follow two friends through 40 years of the R&B business, from right at the beginning of the genre to more contemporary hip-hop sounds. Actually, it sounds like a rap biopic, not a rock n’ roll biopic. I guess they mean rock n’ roll in the generic sense of any sort of music that isn’t performed by an orchestra and is covered by Rolling Stone. Personally, I like to think of rock as involving the use of a guitar and a long-haired guy who knows how to sing.
