Despite filming about 45 minutes away from my house, I’ve held very little excitement for this summer’s big budget remake of War of the Worlds, however the more buzz that comes out about the movie, the more interested I’m becoming.
The second teaser trailer has now hit the web (presumably putting it in theaters today - most likely in front of The Ring Two). The trailer features more of the scene we saw in the Super Bowl trailer, where Tom Cruise threatens Manny (“Get in the car Manny, or you’re going to die!” will become this season’s “Show me the money!”) and drives a mini van away as the overpass bridge behind them topples over like so much cardboard. We see more of Tom Cruise playing an everyman, something I’m astounded he’s managing to pull off - at least in the brief glimpses appearing in the trailer.
Thankfully what isn’t in the trailer is any glimpse of the aliens, tripods, or any other technology. While we’re starting to see the results of that technology, which looks like lightning and crackling asphalt, the aliens are best left to be revealed on the big screen in the film itself. Good choice for the advertising folks putting the trailers together.
