Spike Jonze On That Leaked Where The Wild Things Are Clip

Over the weekend a clip from Spike Jonze’s much anticipated adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are leaked out onto the internet. At one point we had it up right here, but odds are it’s since been cease and desisted out of existence. It seems there’s a reason for that… it’s not actually a clip from the movie.

Tonight Warner Brothers was kind enough to send us an official response to the leaked clip from writer/director Spike Jonze. I’ll let him explain what’s up with the footage. He says, “That was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn’t look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actually film...Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later...”

So there you have it. Just early test footage. And if you’ve seen it, you have to admit that for early test footage it was actually awfully good. If the movie looks even better than that, and contains even better performances, we could be in for something pretty special with the final film. We can’t wait to see what you’re up to Spike! Bring on the real thing!
