As seen in Kenneth Branagh's Thor, the relationship between the titular God of Thunder and his father, Odin, is a rather tumultuous one. After all, it was Odin who banished his favorite son to Midgard (a.k.a. Earth) after loudly declaring that he was a "vain, greedy, cruel boy." So it's nice to see that the two of them can still share a moment together sitting on a bench in Asgard.
While Thor: The Dark World won't be out until November, today has been a full day of celebrating the upcoming sequel. At midnight we saw the release of the first ever trailer for the film (which our own Katey Rich followed with a detailed examination) and then we got a peek at the awesome-yet-unavailable posters that artist Olly Moss designed for the film's cast as a parting gift at the end of the movie's production. And now we have the above still, which comes to us via Marvel's official Twitter feed.
In the movie, directed by Game of Thrones' Alan Taylor, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) returns with Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to the resplendent realm of Asgard only to find himself up against another deadly enemy that threatens the entire universe: Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston) and his army of Dark Elves. As seen in last night's preview, many of the actors from the first film are set to reprise their roles in the sequel, including Anthony Hopkins (seen above), Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, and Rene Russo. Look for Thor: The Dark World in theaters November 8th.
