Titanic is set to be re-released in 3D next April, and you know what that means: it's time for the bombastic James Cameron marketing machine to make a comeback! As someone who is as in the tank for Titanic as a human possibly can be, I still couldn't help but laugh at the title at the beginning of the new Titanic 3D trailer, which debuted at the film's Facebook page. "The World's Most Beloved And Acclaimed Film?" Really, Jim? You're not even gonna let Gone With The Wind fight for that title?
The trailer that follows is just as bombastic and occasionally hilarious (the bad dialogue feels especially stiff out of context), but also in no way deters my plan to see this 7 or so times in theaters next spring. Check out the trailer below.
Yes, I am definitely in, even though this trailer shows nothing that wasn't in the original films-- producer Jon Landau and Cameron promise that not a frame of the film has been changed, and it's just going to be the 3D that's different. And yet, there's just something about seeing the scenes and the score and dreamy young DiCaprio put together that gives you that Pavlovian impulse to go back to the movie theater. I've watched Titanic at home many, many times since its release in 1997, but I don't think it's ever been quite the same. I'm really, genuinely excited to revisit it on the giant screen-- and not just for the sake of my 14-year-old self, whose heart is most definitely still going on.
