The hunt for the next Superman is on and it’s starting to look like Zack Snyder’s take on the character is leading him to look for a lesser known actor, rather than going with one of the Nic Cage’s of the world. In particular, he may be considering one of the newer stars of True Blood.

True-Blood.net reports that series' new lycan Joe Manganiello appeared at a convention this weekend and revealed that he’s been talking to Warner Bros. about playing Kal-El in their new movie. He later jumped on twitter to further clarify things and said, “Just to be clear... as of today, I am not "negotiating" to play SuperMan… but keep your fingers crossed and thanks for the wishful thinking!” There are a couple of ways to read that, he could be saying that reports of his original statements are entirely wrong, or he could be saying that he doesn’t have the part yet but they’ve talked about it. Pick your interpretation.

If he gets the part it won't be Joe's first role in a superhero movie. He played Flash Thompson in both Spider-Man and Spider-Man 3. From my perspective, Manganiello has the height and the muscles for it, but he still doesn’t quite look the part. On the other hand I’m not sure people really understand or care about what Superman is supposed to look like, since, a lot of the general public seems to think he’s Don Draper. Maybe I’m just hung up on Brandon Routh, who was perfect, and is now getting the shaft for completely lame, studio politics related reasons.
