Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t known for his period dramas, his romantic comedies or his historical documentaries. The A-list action star carved his niche in Hollywood blowing shit up, and he just dropped a fantastic montage of all the best explosions from his decades-spanning career. You can check it out below:
Overkill: The Schwarzenegger Explosion Supercut was posted to Arnold’s YouTube page, and it documents his history of on-set disasters. Over the course of the montage, we see memorable moments from movies like Predator, True Lies, Commando, The Running Man, the Terminator films (of course), and Total Recall. The synthesizer music used for the montage is spectacular, and so very "Arnold." But I also love how the people behind the movie go into great detail for each movie or franchise. For example, the first explosion occurs in Terminator at the 1-minute and 13-second mark. Why wait?! And there are 32 total explosions in James Cameron’s thriller. Who would dare try to say that the movie doesn't deliver the best of Arnold?
The end of the montage breaks down a number of interesting stats for all of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s action career. For example, the film with the most explosions? Predator, which tallied 77 explosions. And the video claims that there have been 665 total explosions in all of Arnold’s movies. Props go out to the bleary-eyed intern who had to watch every single Schwarzenegger movie with a notepad on their lap, keeping tally.
There’s a reason for all of this on-screen insanity. Arnold Schwarzenegger has partnered with Omaze for an "Experience" event called "Blow Shit Up With Arnold" that benefits After-School All-Stars. Though the auction no longer is available, the winners entered for an opportunity to lift weights with the superstar, stay in a four-star Los Angeles hotel, and blow shit up with Arnold. The page actually says that people will be able to "throw a grenade, fire a rocket launcher, blow up a car and so much more." Maybe you can make it into the next YouTube montage.
Look for Arnold Schwarzenegger on screen in this summer’s Terminator: Genisys. We’re waiting to see what his next project will be… and whether it will increase his explosion totals.
