While not a beloved summer family film, Brad Pitt’s latest vehicle, World War Z earned a fresh rating and did quite well at the box office, pulling in more than $474 million worldwide. These facts won’t tell you whether or not the flick is to your liking, but if you already are pumped up about World War Z’s Blu-ray and DVD release, or just want to check it out, Paramount Home Media Distribution is bringing the film to Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on September 17. Additionally, if you just want to catch the theatrical edition of the film, the company is putting together an early Digital release, which will allow users to access the film starting on September 10.

Any cover art featuring Pitt is usually eye-catching, but the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray copies will be particularly special, since they will offer both the theatrical version of the film on the DVD, as well as the unrated version of the film on the nicer formats. There’s currently no word on exactly how long the unrated cut will be, but since it’s quite hard to tear your eyes from the screen during the wild action sequences in World War Z, you may not notice the extra minutes going by, anyway.

I’ve already talked up the Blu-ray copies of the film, but the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray copies are the only ones that will come with any bonus features. DVD copies will be pretty barren and will include the theatrical version of the film only, while HD picture will also entitle viewers to extras including “Outbreak,” a segment that will spend time with Brad Pitt and Marc Foster on set. Additionally, plenty of behind-the scenes extras will be available, including a look at the final confrontation and exploring the big Jerusalem scene that popped up in the film and in most of the trailers leading to the theatrical release. You can check out the full list of extras, below.

World War Z Blu-ray Bonus Features
  • Origins
  • Looking to Science
  • WWZ: Production
  • Outbreak
  • The Journey Begins
  • Behind The Wall
  • Camouflage

As an added vote of confidence in favor of the film, Paramount recently brought the movie back into theaters for another theatrical IMAX run. The new run for World War Z is a limited engagement that began on August 2 and will run for one week only. You can check out more details at World War Z’s official movie site.
