news:blended 3.23 - 3.30

Too lazy to read all the wonderful news our insightful crew scours the globe to bring you every day? Too outmoded to have an MP3 player for the podcast? Shame on you all! However, being the generous lot we are, welcome to news:blended, your weekly guide to the most interesting stories reported on Cinema Blend over the last seven days.

This is my first crack at news:blended. As with many first timers, I really need you to be gentle. Since there wasn’t much of a unifying theme for the week, I’m just throwing it all against the wall and seeing what sticks.

FRIDAY

Gibson rants and raves, who would have thought?

Twelve year old boys everywhere, rejoice!

The last seven days started with a bang as a friend of Josh (a FOJ) was in attendance as Mel Gibson got huffy at some protestors who criticized his movie Apocalypto. He didn’t claim it was a Zionist conspiracy, but did drop some F-bombs as the protestors were tossed out. On a happier note, the famous Harry Potter kids are all confirmed to return for the rest of the Potter movies. There was some worry that Emma Watson would take off and sixth grade boys would have to find a new object of lust. Crisis averted.

SATURDAY

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Saturday news was a bit slow. I guess that proves even the CinemaBlend news writers have something resembling a life. We still managed to show you some pictures from the upcoming Rambo 4 set. Sly really tries something different. He is wearing a ripped shirt and a headband and appears to be beaten up somewhat. That is so different from his other movies in the series. Well, there is one difference, he’s about 80 now and the whole thing is a big joke.

SUNDAY

The Turtles win the box office battle of crapola.

In one of those "well, someone has to win this thing" weekends at the box office, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie triumphed. I saw The Last Mimzy with my daughter and about six other people. It ended up finishing fifth, which surprised me. It’s not great, but I have no doubt it is much better than TMNT. Everything is just sort of running in place until the big boys show up in early May.

MONDAY

Scorsese goes with what works.

Nightmare on Elm Street 65 coming soon.

A couple of old friends had some news on Monday. Martin Scorsese has pretty much cemented the concept that Leonardo DiCaprio is his new DeNiro (and yes, I do have a good grasp on the obvious, thanks.) DiCaprio will star in The Wolf of Wall Street, a Scorsese movie about stock market corruption in the 1990’s. In horror movie news, Freddy Krueger is probably going to torture us all with another movie. It might be a prequel, a battle royale with another has-been scary-guy like Michael Myers, or something with Freddy carving up hot young television stars. I’m really starting to wish death on Robert Englund just to put an end to this. I feel bad about that thought, since I loved him in "V."

TUESDAY

Sin City 3 will have actors!

Movie may be bad simply due to subject matter.

On Tuesday we saw a story about how some big names might be in the sequel to a sequel that hasn’t been made yet. That’s what the internet is all about my friends, rumors about speculations two steps ahead. Robert Rodriguez says that if Sin City 2 actually gets made, that Sin City 3 could have Johnny Depp and Anotonio Banderas. It will be based on the graphic novel "To Hell and Back" and feature tons of violence and fan boy wet dream girls. Rodriguez didn’t say anything about the content, but I’m willing to go out on a limb. We also assumed that Darren Aronofsky’s next movie would suck because it is about boxing. The flick, The Fighter, will blow chunks in our opinion, because it’s about…..boxing. Well, that’s not our opinion, exactly, it’s the boss’ opinion, and he could be right. Frankly, I though Million Dollar Baby was pretty craptacular and if this boxing movie is anything like that one, I’m with Josh.

WEDNESDAY

Jason Bourne forgets again.

Winstone Replaces Short-Round

Wednesday was trailer-day. In addition to linking to the first international trailer of The Bourne Ultimatum, we threw a bunch of trailers into Trailer Trash and let you open them like a surprise box from the jewelry counter at the fair. I’m surprised that considering the number of people he has killed and the revelations he has had, that Jason Bourne still does not have his stuff together in the old mental faculties department. But I’m glad he doesn’t, since I find the movies to be fun action-heavy rides not totally dumbed down to a kid’s level. .

THURSDAY

Shameless promotion of a movie we like.

The second best movie coming out this weekend.

Thursday was all about CinemaBlend pimping for The Lookout. Josh Tyler must have gotten a handjob from Joseph Gordon-Levitt because in addition to a "Go see The Lookout" story, he throws in another ad for it while talking about the movie that everyone actually will go see this weekend, Blades of Glory. I haven’t seen either film (hey, I have a job, a stack of DVD’s to review, two kids, a wife, and this news:blended thing, I don’t have time to do screenings) but I’m going to follow Josh’s advice and see The Lookout when I’m able. You should too. While you’re at it, rent Brick, Gordon-Levitt’s 2005 flick that transports 1940’s film noir to a high school near you.

Well, that’s my first pass at blending the week’s news. If you liked it or didn’t, leave some feedback. Also, read our news section, we aren’t always first but we won’t be undersold.
