Harrison Ford Just Joined His First Animated Movie Ever

Harrison Ford in Blade Runner 2049

Harrison Ford has built quite the resume in his 40+ years of acting, from playing Han Solo and Indiana Jones numerous times to starring in Blade Runner and The Fugitive. However, one thing that Ford hasn't done yet is lend his vocal talents to an animated movie, but that will soon change, as he is one of several new actors who's being added to the cast of The Secret Life of Pets 2.

Earlier today during the Illumination Entertainment section of Universal Picures' CinemaCon panel, the new cast for The Secret Life of Pets 2 was unveiled, and that included Harrison Ford. His character in the movie wasn't revealed, but knowing his personality and demeanor, I'm guessing he'll either A, be the main villain, or B, serve as a gruff, older pet who imparts wisdom to the main characters. At 75 years old, Ford shows no signs of slowing down his acting career, so it's cool to see that he's finally adding an animated movie to his list of credits.

Patton Oswalt and Tiffany Haddish

But Harrison Ford was the only new casting for The Secret Life of Pets 2 that was announced today, as comedian Patton Oswalt and Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish have also come on board. Oswalt is replacing Louie C.K. as Max the Jack Russell Terrier following C.K.'s dismissal from the sequel last November due to the sexual harassment allegations directed at him. Oswald's previous voice credits include Ratatouille, Happy! and the current Spider-Man animated series. As for Haddish, she will be voicing a shih tzu, though the dog wasn't named. The actress, who will also be a voice in The LEGO Movie Sequel, had this to say about her casting:

Funny that they cast the last black unicorn as a little white dog, but I gotta applaud color-blind casting.

Nick Kroll and Pete Holmes

Finally, The League's Nick Kroll and and Crashing's Pete Holmes have also joined The Secret Life of Pets 2, but their characters weren't identified. Kroll is no stranger to voice acting, having previously lent his talents to Sausage Party, Sing, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie and the Netflix series Big Love. Holmes also has some voice acting experience under his belt from Ugly Americans, American Dad and Animals.

As for the returning cast, the familiar names who will be back for another round of furry action include Kevin Hart, Eric Stonestreet, Dana Carvey, Jenny Slate, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Hannibal Buress and Bobby Moynihan. Chris Renaud is returning to direct and Brian Lynch is back for scripting duties. The first Secret Life of Pets was earned a decent amount of positive reviews upon its release in 2016, and it made over $875 million worldwide.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates about the movie.
