There are few filmmakers working today who are held in such high regard and with the kind of devoted following as Christopher Nolan. He has delivered some of the most memorable movies of the 21st century, including the film many consider to be the best superhero movie ever in The Dark Knight. The director is a true auteur, with Oscar nominations for directing and writing to his name, as well as a coterie audience that helps make every one of his films an event. Like many auteurs, Christopher Nolan has a certain style that threads throughout his body of work, making the director's filmography ripe for a satirical lampooning in an Honest Trailer. Which brings us to today's outing. So, steel yourselves Nolanites and check out funny trailer for Christopher Nolan's movies.

Oh my, this is sure to ruffle some feathers. This brilliantly points out how Christopher Nolan is the internet's god of cinema, a man beyond reproach whose work is elevated perhaps past its own merits. This is evidenced if you check out the IMDb top 250 films, where Nolan boasts five films in the top 50 and The Dark Knight Rises is above movies like Citizen Kane, Reservoir Dogs and 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is funny how self-aware Screen Junkies' Honest Trailer is, knowing that all of the glowing praise it bestows on Nolan will be ignored by the director's fiercely loyal legion of fans who take jokes as a personal affront. Why so serious, indeed.

The trailer also does a great job of pointing out some of the stylistic and story choices that recur throughout Christopher Nolan's films, including his complex stories, eardrum shattering scores, and color choices, which are hilariously pointed out may be due to color blindness. Easily the funniest part of this though is when it is pointed out how often similar, stoic protagonists in Christopher Nolan films, all suffer the loss of their wives/girlfriends. This leads to a joke that perhaps this theme is coming from somewhere and Nolan's wife and producing partner Emma Thomas needs to run.

Perhaps because the focus is on themes throughout Nolan's filmography, this doesn't critique my personal beef with his movies, which is the awkward, messy and unconvincing way the director films fights, the primary examples occurring during Dark Knight trilogy. Still though, as the trailer notes, there is no question that Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest modern directors whose every project is rightfully eagerly anticipated. As to what Christopher Nolan's next project will be, we'll have to wait and see. He will not be directing the next James Bond movie, so the possibilities are wide open and no matter the subject, I'm sure fans will continue to believe in Christopher Nolan.
