Last year we saw an iconic terror take place in Derry, Maine with the debut of Andy Muschietti's IT. Stephen King's Losers Club had its first-ever run in with Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgård), and fans have been looking forward to the release of IT: Chapter 2 next year, as Muschietti returns with a brand new cast of actors. Now it seems like IT: Chapter 2 has finally begun production, and James McAvoy has shared a photo from the set of the movie confirming his first day of filming. Check out the Split actor's post, below, to see for yourself.
There you have it, folks. James McAvoy just posted that photo, and we now have confirmation of his first official day on the set of IT: Chapter 2. Of course, not content to simply announce that he has begun working on the highly-anticipated sequel, McAvoy also decided to have some fun with the name of Derry, Maine by including a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese in the shot. Pure, unadulterated dad humor.
For those of you who do not already know, James McAvoy is one of several actors who has signed on to take on the roles of the adult Losers Club in IT: Chapter 2. Specifically, McAvoy has signed on to take on the part of Bill Denbrough, played by Jaeden Lieberher in the original film. In the original source material, the stuttering boy grows up to become an accomplished author (very much in the vein of Stephen King himself), and while IT largely plays out as an ensemble piece, Bill arguably stands out as the de facto hero of the tale.
In addition to James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, IT: Chapter 2 has enlisted a broad range of other notable actors to take on the rest of The Losers Club roles, and show where these kids ultimately went. Two of the other most exciting casting choices are Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, as well as Bill Hader as Richie Tozier. Filling out the rest of the ensemble is Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, James Ransone as Eddie Kaspbrak, and Andy Bean as Stanley Uris. Additionally, Bill Skarsgård is set to reprise his now-iconic role as Pennywise in the film, and while we have no definitive confirmation that the younger actors will return to play The Losers Club in flashbacks, several actors from the original IT have expressed interest in returning to do so.
As always, CinemaBlend will keep you in-the-loop with more updates related to IT: Chapter 2 as new details associated with the highly-anticipated sequel are made available to us. The follow-up to the hit Stephen King adaptation is set to debut in theaters next year on September 6, 2019!
