We've been hearing about the possibility that Curb Your Enthusiasm might produce new episodes for some time, but up until this morning, we'd heard nothing definitive about Season 9. However, now it looks as if fans can finally rejoice. This morning, HBO finally announced that Curb Your Enthusiasm will be back for new episodes. Unfortunately, a few of the details are still up in the air, including when it will premiere and who will be back for Season 9.
HBO made an announcement revealing the news, which also included the following witty barb from Curb Your Enthusiasm lead Larry David:
In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, 'I left, I did nothing, I returned.'
HBO hasn't made any big programming decisions since Michael Lombardo left the network a few months back. Newcomer head Casey Bloys did make an announcement that the long-anticipated Westworld will finally hit the schedule in the fall on the subscription cable network. Bringing back Curb Your Enthusiasm is a whole different ballpark, however, as it brings a credible and well-recognized comedy brand back into the HBO fold and strengthens a comedy lineup that also includes Veep, Silicon Valley, Girls and Ballers.
The news also comes a few days after J.B. Smoove, who plays Leon on the series, revealed he had been talking with Larry David and the creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm admitted it might finally be time to return to the beloved franchise. A scant few days later, HBO got the deal done.
It's been a long time coming, too. Almost a year ago, Curb's Jeff Schaffer also noted that a new season and even a movie had been discussed. Plus, Larry David himself never said never related to the return of the hit comedy. Still, we hadn't gotten any traction on these comments in a long while. In fact, it's been almost five years since we've gotten new episodes of the HBO comedy, and while Arrested Development has proven we should never say never in terms of revitalizing franchises, this one was beginning to feel like an idea that had seen better days. Of course, now that the announcement has been made, we're back on board with the idea.
Obviously, we currently do not know when Curb Your Enthusiasm is expected to return to the HBO schedule. However, since it takes a while for stuff to get written and for production to commence, we're expecting it to be a little while. Still, we'll let you know as soon as HBO reveals a premiere date. For now, you can check out what TV programs are coming up this summer with our summer TV premiere schedule.
