How John Oliver Responded To Being Singled Out In The Gilmore Girls Trailer

The Gilmore Girls trailer dropped just a couple of days ago, and was pretty satisfying, if I do say so myself. One of the things it did really well was to bring back Lorelei and Rory's penchant for referencing current pop culture trends and personalities. In fact, HBO's John Oliver got a VERY memorable shoutout during the trailer and this week, Stephen Colbert called him out on it.
Before we give you the quote from the Late Show with Stephen Colbert episode, we should mention the John Oliver reference featured Lauren Graham's Lorelei asking Rory if her daughter believed John Oliver might find her "hot." Here's what John Oliver had to say about being singled out in Netflix's Gilmore Girls trailer.
Lorelei, the answer is, 'Yes, I do find you hot.' And I'll tell you why. I'm a red-blooded male with an in-built heat detector. And my heat detector registers you as on fuego.
It's a blunt answer, but a really, really funny one. Honestly, we shouldn't expect less from John Oliver, who has become one of the most prominent late night hosts on television right now. It's an even bigger feat, considering he is backed by a subscription cable channel rather than getting beamed into millions and millions of homes thanks to the longstanding history of network TV. We're not say HBO is a low-end network, but it's way easier to be Stephen Colbert than it is to bring late night viewers to HBO, simply since more people have network TV in their homes.
Speaking of Stephen Colbert, the whole Late Show interview of John Oliver is a treat for fans of either host and especially their Comedy Central days. A lot of the focus is on the election of the interview, but you can catch Oliver's wacky Gilmore Girls comments in the part that starts around the 5:55 mark.
In addition, if you haven't actually caught the brand new Gilmore Girls trailer, yet, we have you covered. The new footage for the series can be viewed here, although we would like to point out that the whole conversation about John Oliver and the corpse flower was actually confirmed to have been shot separately from the four episodes that are headed to Netflix. Thus, it's not actually footage from the series, but it is brand new footage of the gals from Stars Hollow.
You can catch new episodes of The Late Show Starring Stephen Colbert on weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET, only on CBS. In addition, Gilmore Girls is going to be hitting Netflix on November 25. More TV premiere dates can be viewed with our full schedule.
