Spike's Lip Sync Battle can bring out sides of competitors that we never knew existed, ranging from Channing Tatum's twirly performance of "Let It Go" to Shaq channeling his inner Jennifer Beal for a Flashdance number. Jay Leno will be one of the next two guests to bring his musical talents to Spike. We already have a look at one of his numbers, and he brings enough energy to his performance that we have to wonder just a little bit about his health. Take a look!
After his version of The Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz," I don't think anybody can ever accuse Jay Leno of giving any less than his best for Lip Sync Battle. Leno doesn't do quite as much dancing as other guests have in past episodes, but he's so enthusiastic about his shaking and shimmying that we have to give him credit for going the extra mile. In fact, he looks like he would collapse by the end if he didn't have the microphone stand to hang onto. As it is, I was half hoping that LL Cool J would call a time out and offer to let Leno remove his leather jacket. His face was pretty red.
Luckily for those of us who might have been a little concerned for Jay Leno's health thanks to this clip, we can take solace in the fact that episodes of Lip Sync Battle are pre-taped, and we probably would have heard if the legendary former talk show host had actually suffered a heart attack while giving his all to a performance of "Ballroom Blitz." He only looked like he was about to pass out; he almost certainly stayed on his feet and finished the number. The show must go on.
Of course, depending on the order of the performances in Jay Leno's episode, he may have felt the need to go above and beyond in "Ballroom Blitz." His opponent will be none other than Craig Ferguson, and the sneak peek of his version of "Take A Chance On Me" indicates that Leno is facing some stiff competition. Neither man is exactly the youngest or spryest contestant ever to appear on the show, and enthusiasm may be what makes or breaks a stalemate.
The clip of Jay Leno's "Ballroom Blitz" is unfortunately rather short, so we can't say for sure if he keeps up his breathless enthusiasm for the entire song. If he does keep it up, however, Leno may have what it takes to emerge the victor in the latest round of Lip Sync Battle... and maybe loosen his collar and take a breather right after.
