Warning! The following contains spoilers for the Season 2 premiere of This Is Us. Read at your own risk!

This Is Us just took a MAJOR leap forward in answering the question of how Jack Pearson died. While not everything was revealed, a closing shot of the charred Pearson household on the night of Jack's death just flipped a lot of currently working theories on their heads. Here are some new theories regarding the house fire, and how that twist just made us rethink everything concerning how Jack died:

Jack Died In The House Fire That Kate Accidentally Started

One big clue that was revealed last season in This Is Us is that Kate had something to do with her father's death, although it was never really revealed how. Now that we know a fire is the likely cause, we can now speculate Kate may have caused the fire by leaving on a hair straightener or one of the many simple household objects that can send a home up in smoke while Jack was sleeping. Flashback Kate doesn't seem to be too riddled with personal guilt in the scenes we saw tonight, so if this is the case, perhaps she finds out after the fact.

Jack Died In The House Fire Because He Was Drunk

Quite a few fans of This Is Us were convinced that however Jack Pearson died, it would be due to his heavy drinking. After tonight's reveal, they may be right as Rebecca took Jack back in after he came clean that he had been hiding his alcoholism. Could Jack have fallen off the wagon again months later and accidentally set the house ablaze after passing out?

Jack Died Saving Someone In The Family From The House Fire

This one is a bit of a stretch, as all the Pearsons in the wake of Jack's death didn't appear to have smoke on them or anything, but it's possible. Perhaps there was a gas leak and Jack arrived home to a room of his passed out family and rushed to get them out. Something sparks, there's an explosion, and Jack is gone in an instant. A gas explosion in a house would likely cause a ton more damage, so it's probably not the case, but it might explain how so many members of the family are aware of what happened, and perhaps why Kate feels so much guilt if her father died saving her. We can't rule anything out at this point.

Jack's Death Had Something To Do With Kevin's Leg

Out of all the things shown during the flashback of the night Jack perished, Kevin's broken leg was one of the weirdest. What was the point of This Is Us focusing on that cast at such a big moment in the show? It could be the show telling fans that when Kevin breaks his leg we'll be close to learning the full story, but it could also mean something more.

More answers regarding Jack's death are sure to come as This Is Us continues on with Season 2 with the next episode on October 3rd at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
