Moonlight, a new show on CBS, centers on Mick St. John (Alex O'Louglin), a private investigator, who is investigating vampire-style murders in Los Angeles. The twist? Mick is a vampire himself. Unlike other vampires, however, Mick has devoted his (un)life to helping those in need.
In addition to helping the living, Mick also crosses paths with Beth Turner (Sophia Myles), a woman who he saved years before. What will happen if the two fall in love and Beth finds out what Nick really is?
A show about a vampire who falls for a mortal woman and works as a private investigator in LA? Doesn’t that sound awfully familiar? It sounds like the exact premise of a little show called Angel. In fact, Angel co-creator David Greenwalt was once attached to this project for a brief period of time.
There is only one reason I would even consider giving up a Friday night out or an hour’s worth of TiVo memory: Jason Dohring. I became a fan of his last year when I started watching Veronica Mars, but did I become a big enough fan to watch this Angel rip-off? Hardly.
Bottom line: Joss Whedon did it first and, I’m willing to bet, better.
