It's no secret that we're currently in the midst of a TV renaissance. Through the use of cable, network TV, and streaming services, there is no shortage of fantastic being produced. As such, even the most acclaimed film stars have recently signed on for small screen roles, as some of the best parts are now on television projects. Case in point: HBO's Big Little Lies. The acclaimed drama got a ton of attention for starring the likes of Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and Laura Dern, and after cleaning house at the Emmys it was promptly renewed for a second season. Season 2 booked even bigger talent by bringing on Meryl Streep as Celeste's mother-in-law, and now we've got the first look at newcomer Mary Louise Wright. Check it out.

After the harrowing abuse that Celeste suffered throughout Big Little Lies' first season, its heartwarming to see her connecting with the twins as well as Perry's mother Mary. That being said, Mary's arrival in Monterey is sure to throw a wrench into the lives of the five women of Big Little Lies. This photo (via Reese Witherspoon) is enough to excite the most casual fans of the drama.

It should be interesting to see how Meryl Streep's new character ultimately enters Big Little Lies. Is she doing a quick vacation and simply visiting her grandchildren and daughter-in-law? Or has Perry's mysterious death piqued her interest, bringing her to Monterey to investigate the situation around his fate. There was no mention of Perry's mother in Season 1, so it's unclear what type of relationship Nicole Kidman's Celeste had with her before his death.

While Season 2 of Big Little Lies will have to venture off the pages of Liane Moriarty's book of the same name, there is plenty of fascinating material and unanswered questions to mine from. Perry's death was preceded by the revelation that he was Jane's rapist, and therefore the biological father of her son Ziggy. Jane and Celeste will have to grapple with their shared trauma, as well as what do with their kids; technically, the twins are Ziggy's half brothers by blood.

Big Littles Lies' sophomore season will also no doubt revolve around the five women attempting to keep the truth about Perry's death under wraps. Bonnie accidentally killed him in an attempt to save Celeste and the other ladies from his attack, with the moms having to resolve their differences and stick to an identical story. But Detective Quinlan doesn't seem convinced, and the final shot from Season 1 shows that someone was watching the women and their kids on the beach during the final montage. Somebody's eyes are watching, and Mary Louise's introduction to the story presumably won't help things.

Big Little Lies is filming now, and it's unclear when Season 2 may arrive on HBO. In the meantime, check out our midseason premiere list to plan your next binge watch. Plus our superhero premiere list and Amazon premiere list to ensure you don't miss a single episode.
