Perhaps I’m not quite as jaded as I believed as this season began. Heroes’ last episode had me convinced there is hope to be had. More than that there could be a great show once more. Then there’s the 24: Redemption movie, that was surprisingly adequate at imitating season one while mashing in the hyperbolic action and stories of the last few seasons. Now I’m looking forward to seeing what Lost can bring to the table. The real question, however, is whether there’s room for even more sci-fi mystery of the week/season now that I’m fully engrossed in Fringe.

ABC has announced they are not backing away from overloading my brain with sci-fi what ifs. The network has cast Courtney B. Vance (Law and Order: Criminal Intent) and Jack Davenport (Norrington in the Pirates films) in Flash Forward, a new series based on the novel by Robert J. Sawyer. ABC is hoping the story of what happens when the entire world blanks for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, and how everyone deals with the ensuing chaos, will be just the partnership Lost needs.

I just hope it’s good. This isn’t the first time ABC has taken a decent idea and paired it with Lost, or tried to imitate the success of their flagship sci fi show. Day Break had me intrigued, but ultimately was let go by the network. Same for The Nine. Like I said, I may not be as jaded as I once believed about television but I’m at least skeptical. And let’s not forget that ABC has painted itself into a corner as a chick network. Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Private Craptice all run as their high end shows. Personally I think Life on Mars is the perfect accompaniment to Lost.
